Balancing Impact and Income: Can Healthcare Professionals Have It All?
Hey there, welcome back.
Today, I want to talk about a topic that’s near and dear to my heart – the impact and income dilemma that many healthcare professionals face.
An important topic for our industry. The healthcare industry.
Today’s conversation is applicable to all healthcare professionals. Registered nurses. Physicians. Physician’s Assistants. Therapists. Psychologists. Registered dietitians. SLP’s. OT’s. Physio’s…
Through the lens of a healthcare provider, how do you define:
Impact?
Income?
As someone who has worked in the healthcare industry, I understand the struggles and challenges that come with wanting to make a difference while also earning a desired income.
In recent times, I’ve been discussing if passive income is really possible and ways for healthcare professionals to increase their income without compromising their purpose and passion for helping loving humans.
These conversations have sparked interesting discussions about ethical considerations and the balance between self-interest, patient and, or client care.
Can we have a positive impact on our health communities and still grow our income?
Let’s explore…
Our Healthcare Systems
Let’s start off by stepping out of your practitioner role and thinking about your own experiences as a patient or client.
Take off your practitioner hat and put on your patient hat to place ourselves in our clients’ shoes.
I want you to think about a personal experience where you were a patient or client and felt disappointed.
*Remember, we come from the healthcare field, so we may be more aware of these instances.
Perhaps it was a time when you didn’t get the results you desired?
Or when the service didn’t help you transform your life?
What was it that let you down?
Why do you think you weren’t served in the way you wanted?
For me, it was a gastrointestinal issue that I experienced in my mid-twenties. After undergoing various tests and procedures, I was simply handed a pamphlet on IBS and sent on my way.
From my perspective, although the healthcare team was kind, I was left without a clear plan or support. This experience taught me the importance of finding solutions that go beyond the standard protocols and truly address the needs of each individual.
Based on my own personal health experiences, plus studying, researching, practicing and mastering online learning for healthcare for over a decade now, I come with a vantage point that allows me to see the potential for improvement in our current healthcare systems.
It’s my mission to share my expertise and guide healthcare professionals on the path to leveraging their health expertise.
The question remains – as health providers, private practice owners, can we strike a balance between income and impact?
Leveraging Beyond Health Professional Norms
Have you ever challenged our traditional healthcare norms?
It’s of benefit to us to question the traditional norms we’ve been taught in school. And evaluate if there are alternative approaches in our health practices that don’t neglect our own well-being.
I suggest we seek out approaches that align with our vision, values, purpose, passion and goals.
Could it be time for your business vision to be re-imagined?
Many of us entered the healthcare field because we are natural caregivers, but maybe it’s time to question whether our self-sacrificing nature is truly serving us, our clients and our practice.
- Have we blindly followed the path of putting others first without considering our own well-being and financial stability?
- Could this be contributing to levels of unhappiness, the feeling of overwhelm, exhaustion, compassion fatigue and, or burnout?
- Do you have a good salary and still often feel like you’re living paycheck to paycheck due to the cost of living that keeps going up?
- Or does your money feel like it is gone before it even comes home from your health practice?
Is any of this relatable?
If so, you are here for a reason. Glad you came.
Unlike other industries, as healthcare professionals we often face unique challenges when it comes to increasing income. Like our old traditional ways of thinking that included 3 ways for health providers to make more money:
- See more people
- Raise your prices
- See more people and raise your prices
Among these, we also face challenges placed by regulations, rules and legislation designed to protect patients and clients. We must consider the ethical implications of pursuing higher earnings and I can appreciate and respect that.
But does this mean that we cannot have more income to align with our impact we are having in the world?
Impact + Income 4 Health Providers = Digital Assets
As a retired registered dietitian, an optimist and leader in digital technology for online health education, I wholeheartedly believe that health providers can have both impact and income.
In fact, I believe it is important for us to identify the gaps that prevent clients from achieving their desired outcomes. Then we can leverage technology and innovative digital solutions, like automations and online programs to bridge the gaps. Leveraging our impact.
You can take out all the repeatable educational parts that you do on a daily basis with your clients and move them into an automated system. Leveraging your time. Leveraging your freedom. Leveraging your income.
Your check-ins, client onboarding, offboarding, administrative tasks, emails and more, can all be automated to minimize burnout. Making more time and more energy to focus on more clients, while working less. ❤️+ 💲
We can build online health programs and courses to educate, monitor and track clients’ progresses and results, moving us beyond one-to-ones. ❤️ + 💲
We can use digital learning to become health experts in our area of expertise for any client to access from any city, any province, any state or any country. ❤️ + 💲
We can run expert-led health consultations, programs, courses and communities that healthcare clients can access from the comfort of their very own homes. ❤️💲
Point proven? Have lots more to share if needed…😉
Ultimately, it’s important for healthcare professionals to recognize the possibility of both impact and income, as it is attainable. If I can do it, so can you.
With the right mindset, strategy and commitment, we can achieve incredible transformations in the lives of our clients and our own lives. Is there anything wrong with that?
I think it’s time to challenge the traditional healthcare norms by exploring innovative digital approaches. Technology helps us to serve more beautiful humans and make more money.
It may require some creativity and outside-the-box thinking but the possibilities are endless.
So let’s leverage your expertise, use technology to complement your health practice and make a lasting impact on both your client communities and your bank account(s).

To join a new era of healthcare where impact and income go hand-in-hand. Ready?
Sending so much love, joy and happiness,
Stephanie
