Ep. 247 Should I Start with a Smaller or Larger Program?
Listen on your favourite podcast app like Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
“Okay, so you all have a way that you work with your patients and clients one-on-one, you’ve just never mapped it all out. So your brilliant file cabinet of a brain pulls out a folder here, opens this drawer, moves this one handout out…that’s what you’re doing constantly in your brain. Instead of doing that over and over again, what if you could dump out that entire file cabinet and take all those file folders and all those pieces of paper and all those tools in your toolbox and all the pieces that you use and put them into a streamlined step-by-step system? That’s what you’re gonna do with your program.”
Tune in as Stephanie Clairmont walks the path to discovering the best duration for your tailored digital health courses, looking into taking content usually covered in one-to-one sessions, and creating an efficient system that ensures your clients receive comprehensive and personalized guidance. Whether your program lasts six weeks, 12 weeks, or even longer, the focus is on evading redundancy and offering extra support to your clients. It’s time to strike that balance between time, content, and the type of content to bring about successful outcomes for your clients.

The Strategy Behind The Length of Your Online Health Program
Product Development Phase – Part #3
Hey there. Welcome back.
Last week we discussed how to run an online health program with one-to-one visits and what a High Touch Hybrid Model is.
If you missed the podcast, I highly recommend giving it a listen as it discusses the High Touch Hybrid Model, which has been particularly successful for both myself and my clients.
Today, I want to share with you a recent conversation I had with one of my clients about an important question many healthcare providers ask when building their online health programs…
Should I start with a smaller or larger program?
During my call with this client, we mapped out her program for the first 6 weeks, but she was unsure whether to launch it at that point or extend it to 10 to 12 weeks.
If you’re grappling with similar questions like:
- How long should it be?
- How long should each recording be?
- How do the lessons and modules all fit together?
- How do you structure the lessons and modules?
Keep reading because I’m going to provide some strategic advice to guide you through the decision-making process.
If you are looking for additional support with:

For now, let’s discuss some strategies in deciding the length of your online health program.
Building Out Your Online Health Program
Ok, so let’s play around with the metaphor that as an existing private health practice or business owner, your brain 🧠 is operating like a filing cabinet🗄️.
Your filing cabinet brain holds all your expertise and all your skills in different folders, on different pieces of paper. You are repeatedly moving all these folders and papers from one drawer to another in your filing cabinet, in your brain.
Now, just think 💡 instead of taking all your expertise and skills and having them stored in different folders, on different papers in your brain…
What if you could stop storing all of your expertise and skills in your brain?
What if you could dump out that entire filing cabinet brain of resources?
Take all those file folders.
All those pieces of paper.
All that expertise and skills that you use when working with your clients.
And put them into a streamlined step-by-step system so you can stop repeating yourself.
Then you add a layer of support and customization.
That’s what you’re gonna do with your program.
So, the first step is to brainstorm and map out all the content that you will cover in your online health program.
Brainstorming Content for Your Online Health Program
Take the time to brainstorm and document all the topics, concepts, niches and actions steps you currently cover when working with your clients.
While mapping out your content, you may realize that there is an abundance of information.
This brain dump will give you a clear picture, a comprehensive overview of the amount of content and help you identify any areas that may need further development or refinement.
You will be able to streamline your content into a structured program with the essential concepts and action steps provided.
By slimming down your content, breaking it down into manageable chunks, you ensure that the program is not overwhelming or an information overload for your clients.
You want your content to be easy to digest for your lovely humans to apply the information.
Duration of Your Online Health Program
Once you have mapped out your content, you need to consider the length of your online health program.
Understanding your clients’ journey and the steps they need to take, will help you determine the appropriate length of your online health program.
The length of your program should be aligned with the time it takes for clients to achieve their desired results.
This means considering the amount of time clients need to implement the content, make progress and gain results.
For some clients, a shorter program of 4-6 weeks may be sufficient, while others may require a longer program of 3-6 months to retain and attain the necessary transformation.
The right amount of content each week or each month, so we’re not shoving all the content in an hour or 2 hour long sessions, on a weekly or monthly basis. It’s too much.
Some topics may be more practical and actionable. And some topics may require a deep exploration and understanding for your clients to integrate the content.
It all depends on the complexity of the content and the pace at which clients have the capacity to absorb and implement this information.
Whether you’re a therapist, psychologist, social worker, psychotherapist, dietitian, physician, naturopath or any role within the health space, sometimes your work, your discussions can be really, really deep. It can be very heavy information to ingest and digest.
We need to teach people less at once. We need to teach or drip the content out a little bit at a time. Especially when it comes to conveying complex concepts.
We need to take one step at a time so that our lovely humans can:
- Learn
- Implement
- Retain
It’s not just the amount of content, but the kind of content you want to include, like different exercises, supplements or anything that will help them improve their current state of health.
By taking all these factors into account, you can design an online health program that provides a meaningful experience for your clients, while delivering the outcomes, the results your lovely humans are seeking.
Something to consider…
It’s important to strike a balance between providing enough time for clients to integrate what they have learned and preventing the program from dragging on for too long.
Refining and Expanding Your Online Health Program
It’s important to remain flexible in your online program’s structure and be open to refinement or expansion over time.
As you work with clients and gather feedback, you may discover additional topics or concepts that need to be incorporated into your program.
By continuously refining and expanding your program, you ensure that it remains relevant, engaging and effective for your clients.
Remember, the needs of your clients will probably evolve and it’s essential to adapt your program accordingly to continue delivering value in meeting their health expectations.
There you have it. We have gone through different key factors to consider when deciding to start with a smaller or larger online health program.
By meticulously mapping out your content, understanding your clients’ needs, the time it will take to achieve results, the depth of your content, the kind of content you want to include and staying open to refinement and expansion, you can design an online health program that is perfectly tailored to the beautiful humans that you serve. 🥰
